THE BLEEDING SUN
LOGLINE:
The fear of a dark prophecy makes the people of Ijofin to banish their future messiah but now that he has come of age and stature as a famed warrior will he be readily forthcoming to come to their aid when they desperately need a savior?
SYNOPSIS:
Born with his placenta wrapped around his wrist, Akinlade was born for greatness and when the gods were consulted, it is foretold that Akinlade will bring war to his people and will also deliver his people; the prophecy is two-fold, it is not clear, it is not a foretelling that bids consolation.
Akinlade grows up into a fine young hunter under the tutelage of his father, he became a good hunter too but he is not so well liked in the village of Ijofin his ancestral land simply because the prophecy concerning him, like many others have filtered around the village.
They live in worry of when Akinlade will wage war against his own people, this dislike from his kinsmen has become a part of him just as he could not do anything about it.
Then he and his father went hunting in the thick forest of a strange land one day and after a brief nap in the jungle, Akinlade wakes up to find his father missing, stranger still, he tried many times to get out of the forest but couldn’t, always coming back to the same spot where he was before.
he has heard about this before, how hunters are trapped in the forest by strange demons and spirits but even at that, where was his father? He feared his father could have been killed by a wild animal in the forest but then, where is his body?
All alone and trapped for days, Akinlade thinks maybe his father also deliberately lured him to the evil forest and traps him there just so the prophecy concerning his life do not come to past, maybe his father wants to get rid of him.
Having being trapped eleven days in the forest, he encounters an older hunter, who was able to help him break the curse of the jungle and set him free from the spell, now Akinlade is able to find his way back into his own village.
Upon arrival, the village is keen to know why he and his father went missing for eleven days and why he came back home alone, he is summoned by the king and Akinlade says he knows not the whereabout of his father, saying he thought his father might also have intentionally abandoned him in the forest.
Not having a clear case to convict him for his father’s disappearance, Akinlade is banished from the land of Ijofin to never return again. The word of the king is law and Akinlade is banished, having to leave behind his mother, two sisters and his dearly betrothed, Oritoke.
He travelled to the distant land of Molete where he is taken in by an old man, a widower and Akinlade starts a new life here.
There are rumors of war in faraway lands and Akinlade joins the men of Molete to prepare for any invasion, in the midst of these, he meets and marries Arinola who he fell hopelessly in love with, however, Arinola is not human, she is a spiritual being in human flesh, Akinlade later finds out about this but still agrees to marry her, he would be tasked to keep her secret safe while she also reciprocates with giving Akinlade spiritual power and in no time Akinlade becomes a great warrior.
The village of Ijofin is sacked by warriors from the north and the people dispersed, coincidentally, some of the people of Ijofin are sold off into slavery in Molete where Akinlade meets with his one-time betrothed, Oritoke.
Arinola got wind of Akinlade and Oritoke’s past and worry that they might rekindle their love but Akinlade has other plans, deeper and a more courageous plan.
Akinlade soon assemble the finest warriors from Molete and far about the rivers, men who are committed to him and his command, Akinlade, the banished young man enters Ijofin and liberates the land from the new settlers, bringing the king and it’s people back to the land of their root.
Akinlade is honored back and the king but would he be able to forgive and forget the past and the treatment meted to him? What were the conditions for his help to restore the land of Ijofin and it’s people back to their ancestral land?
The bleeding sun is a story of bravery in the face of trials and rejection.
