In the Braveheart lands of the far east, sets a tale of love and sacrifices, where royalty meets nobility and bravery, Chidiebere, a lowly farmer and hunter must take his course to set a people free of rebellion from British incursion into his ancestral land.
SYNOPSIS:
Chidiebere was born with a sign, a sign that wasn’t given much notice of but a sign it was. Born in the village of Anioma, far in the hinterlands to the east where seven rivers meet, Chidiebere grew up a normal child, not different from many other, to live a lowly life of a peasant farmer and hunter.
But fate has other plans and soon.
On a day of the new yam festival, tragedy struck when mercenaries from a distant land plunder the village, trying to dominate the land, killing many and turning the village almost upside down but for the timely intervention of the youths of the land, two men are captured and provided information to why Anioma and her neighboring villages were attacked, they are being sent by white men from distant lands across the sea to take villages and bring slaves to them.
Anioma and many of its surrounding villages have heard rumors of the white men from distant lands but never thought the day would come when these men will make the effort to take their slave trade to their land.
All through the attack on the village, Chidiebere shielded and protected Adaobi, the Igwe’s only daughter and presented her unharmed to the king but this chivalrous act will not go unnoticed to the princess who now takes a liking to Chidiebere in a romantic manner and makes it a mission to see that she gets married to him but first the princess must find a way to separate Chidiebere from Adaku who is already betrothed to him.
Chidiebere who unbeknownst to the princess’s plan is fully vocal about the attack on the land by mercenaries and champions the call for the youths of the land to band together and form security units around the land borders, his gut and brazen outspoken nature gets the attention of the kind who begins to hate him for being assertive.
The Igwe’s dislike for Chidiebere stems from the fact that people around the village seem to be turning to Chidiebere now for salvation instead of looking to the throne, the king considers this sacrilegious and spitefully hates Chidiebere and will be seen setting forces in place for his entrapment.
But unknown to Chidiebere, he is fighting a war on three fronts, one in defending the kingdom, the king’s dislike for him and the other, trying to shake off the princesses’ now brazen and frequence advances because he already has a woman his heart beats for, Adaku, the daughter of a lowly blacksmith and kinsman like him.
The princess will go to great length to make sure she intimidates Adaku, Chidiebere’s betrothed to marry Chidiebere himself after several persuasion from his father that since the king is interested in the union then it must happen or their family will be thrown against the throne of the land.
Chidiebere reluctantly marries the princess but it shows he is not in love with her so he concentrates his time and energy on the protection of the realm from the incursion of the white men, fighting several bloody battles and winning the love and respect of his kinsmen.
As time passes, Chidiebere falls in love with the princess and is able to continue to protect the people of the land of Anioma against the predatory western invaders.
